Dr Prathap C Reddy received his premedical degree from the prestigious Madras Christian College and medical degree from Stanley Medical College, Chennai. Following his Fellowship from the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, USA, he went on to head research programmes at the Missouri State Chest Hospital. When Dr Prathap C Reddy returned to India at the behest of his father, giving up a flourishing practice abroad, little did he realise he would set the stage for India to become a global healthcare destination.
Hence, the first Apollo Hospital came up in Chennai in 1983. It has to be said, amidst much skepticism. India in the early 80's was not the easiest place for private enterprise.
